Why I started a blog…on my blog

I started TheProductivePhotog blog a few years back as a way to separate my writing from my main photography website, mjhallphoto.com.

I use Pixieset as a hosting service to market my photography business, which it does well. However, it is a bit bare bones and lacks some of the more robust features geared toward blogging.

I decided to move all of my blog posts to theproductivephotog.com, hosted on Wix, where it currently resides. Maybe. Depending on when you are reading this.

TheProductivePhotog’s original concept was simple: photography and being productive. Two things I care deeply about.

At its core, this blog will always center around those two things. But, as life will be life-ing, that has changed.

My life has taken many twists and turns, and new things have entered it that I care a lot about. Like I said before, I still love cameras, photography, and the ancient art of GSD — getting shit done.

But now…

  • I have built out a robust homelab with various servers and services.
  • Now that I am done having kids, I can finally put more time and attention into running and working out, and writing about it.
  • I have gone down the rabbit hole on all things agentic coding. Using Codex, I have developed and deployed a few applications.
  • I have ambitions of starting my own software company.
  • I thrift on a near-daily basis and want an outlet to share my finds.

All of these things fall outside of the original concept of this blog.

I want to keep things consistent, so the Articles section will continue to be dedicated to photography and productivity. The Blog section will be geared toward everything else that goes on in my life — and my mind.
